Our Story
I’ve always had a deep passion for food and a love for exploring high quality restaurants. As a Muslim girl, I’ve noticed there’s no shortage of excellent halal lamb and beef on the market – even premium options like highly marbled Wagyu beef and grass-fed salt marsh lamb are available – but when it comes to chicken, the story is very different.
Too often, Halal chicken comes from intensively farmed broilers: birds raised indoors, without access to the outdoors, and bred to grow rapidly on poor diets. While these may meet the technical definition of halal, I’ve always questioned whether they meet the higher standard of tayyib – a Qur’anic principle that reminds us food should not only be permissible, but also pure, wholesome, and ethically produced.
This is where my journey began. In January 2025, I partnered with a local farm to create Black Seed Organic Chicken – a brand built on the belief that our community deserves better. Our birds are slow-grown, free to roam outdoors, and fed an Organic nutritious, natural diet. By prioritising animal welfare and sustainable farming practices, we’re committed to raising chickens the way they should be – with care, respect, and quality at the heart of everything we do.
Our mission is simple: to raise awareness about the importance of eating ethically reared chicken, and to deliver a bird that our customers can feel proud to serve to their families and communities.
